Albanian Muslim mini-state leader backs Israel

Albania is set to establish a sovereign Bektashi Muslim mini-state in Tirana, led by spiritual leader Baba Mondi. The new state, likened to the Vatican, will occupy 0.1 square kilometers and be exclusive to the Bektashi Sufi order’s clergy and staff. This initiative aims to promote a tolerant version of Islam, allowing freedom in lifestyle choices without imposing strict rules.

Baba Mondi envisions the state as a World Centre for Bektashis, seeking diplomatic recognition globally. Expressing support for Israel, he emphasized the Bektashi community’s acceptance of all regardless of nationality, religion, or politics. Despite controversy over its liberal practices, the Bektashi order’s heritage dates back to Anatolia and the Janissaries in Turkey.

The plan for a Bektashi mini-state in the heart of Tirana showcases Albania’s commitment to diversity and peaceful coexistence. With a focus on religious tolerance and diplomacy, this unique initiative is set to provide a safe haven for the Bektashi community amid global uncertainties.
