A senior Palestinian diplomat at the United Nations has raised concerns about Israel’s ongoing siege of northern Gaza, where hundreds of Palestinians have died, and hundreds of thousands of civilians are trapped or forced to flee amidst intense bombardment.
The situation in the Jabalia refugee camp and surrounding areas has been dire, with at least 200 people killed in the past week alone. The deputy permanent observer to the UN, Majed Bamya, described the events as “genocide within the genocide.”
‘Continuation of genocidal acts’
Al Jazeera reported that around 400,000 Palestinians are trapped in northern Gaza, unable to evacuate despite orders to do so. Civil defence workers are hindered by continued Israeli attacks, with dozens of bodies left on the streets.
Residents of Jabalia are facing extreme circumstances, as Israel demolishes homes, cuts off food supplies, and engages in relentless attacks. The destruction and loss of life have been condemned by various international bodies, with calls for an end to the violence.
