Dmytro Lubinets says he sent urgent letters to the United Nations and the International Red Cross concerning alleged executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Kursk region of Russia.
Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, has raised the alarm over reports that several Ukrainian prisoners of war were executed by Russian troops in the Kursk region. According to DeepState, a Ukrainian battlefield analysis site affiliated with Ukraine’s Defence Ministry, nine Ukrainian “drone operators and contractors” were allegedly killed by Russian forces on October 10 after surrendering.
Lubinets emphasized the importance of international intervention in response to these alleged executions, stating that the global community “must not turn a blind eye” to such atrocities. He has already reached out to the United Nations and the International Red Cross to address the issue as a “crime committed by the Russians.”
Ukrainian Prosecutor-General Andriy Kostin has launched a criminal investigation into the incident, denouncing the killings as a “gross violation” of the Geneva Convention. With tensions escalating between Russian and Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region, both sides have engaged in fierce combat, resulting in casualties on both sides.
As the conflict continues to escalate, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for increased support from allies to counter the ongoing Russian attacks.
