Former US President Donald Trump’s campaign has raised concerns about a reported threat from Iran and has requested military aircraft and vehicles for protection as he travels the country to campaign for a return to the White House. The campaign asked for military aircraft for Trump’s flights, increased flight restrictions over his residences and rallies, ballistic glass in seven battleground states, and military vehicles for transportation, according to the Washington Post.
These requests were made following briefings where the government warned of active plots by Iran to harm Trump, as per emails reviewed by the Post. Campaign manager Susie Wiles expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of Secret Service personnel, resulting in the cancellation of a public event last minute due to staff shortages.
President Biden has directed the Pentagon to provide Trump with necessary security measures for the final weeks of the campaign, amidst heightened concerns for his safety. Trump’s campaign reported receiving specific threats from Iran, as he was recently targeted in two apparent assassination attempts.
