Recently, a shocking incident occurred at a private college in Lahore where a security guard allegedly raped a student. Fortunately, the police were able to apprehend the suspect within 10 hours of the incident. The Deputy Inspector General formed a special team to investigate the matter promptly.
Despite no FIR being registered yet, the suspect was swiftly arrested after going into hiding. The authorities are currently conducting an investigation and are in contact with the victim’s family to ensure justice is served.
Unfortunately, this incident is part of a larger trend of violence against women in Pakistan. Reports show a significant increase in cases of assault and harassment against women in 2023, with Lahore being one of the highest affected areas. The statistics are alarming, with a woman being raped every 45 minutes and numerous other crimes, including kidnapping and honor killings, taking place.
It is crucial for the government to implement strict measures to combat such heinous crimes and protect the rights and safety of women in society.
