Tragedy Strikes in Khartoum: 23 Killed in Marketplace Air Strike
A Sudanese network of volunteer rescuers reported that on Sunday, the military conducted an air strike on a marketplace in Khartoum, resulting in the death of 23 individuals. The market, located near a main camp in the capital, has been a battleground between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the military as part of a deadly civil war.
The Emergency Response Rooms, led by youth activists, confirmed the tragic incident on Facebook, stating that 23 people had been killed and over 40 others injured in the air strikes on Saturday. Violent clashes have intensified around Khartoum, with the military launching aerial attacks on the city’s center and south.
Humanitarian Crisis
Since the conflict began in April 2023, over 20,000 lives have been lost, though some estimates suggest a much higher death toll of up to 150,000. The World Health Organization has labeled the situation as the world’s largest displacement crisis, with over 10 million people forced from their homes in Sudan. A state of famine has been declared in refugee camps like Zamzam in Darfur, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation.
The civil war, led by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, has caused widespread devastation across Sudan, with various regions under the control of different factions. The conflict shows no signs of abating, leaving many Sudanese civilians in grave danger.
