SERAP calls on Tinubu to rollback petrol price hike until court ruling

SERAP Urges President Tinubu to Reverse Petrol Price Increase

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to reverse the recent increase in petrol prices. SERAP filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of NNPCL’s power to increase petrol prices.

SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, stated that the increase in petrol prices undermines the ongoing court case and the rule of law. The organization emphasized the importance of upholding justice and the constitution, urging immediate action to protect the rights of Nigerians.

The recent petrol price hike, the second in a month, could have detrimental effects on vulnerable Nigerians. SERAP highlighted issues of corruption within NNPCL and called for accountability and transparency in managing public funds.

By reversing the petrol price increase, the Federal High Court can impartially address the legality of the hike, ensuring a fair judicial process. SERAP emphasized the need for judicial independence and the protection of citizens’ rights in the face of arbitrary price changes.
