Corruption within the Medical-Social Expert Commission (MSEC) in Ukraine has been a longstanding issue, with legislation enabling abuse by those seeking bribes. Ivan Tymochko, Head of the Council of Reservists of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, highlighted this problem on a recent TV broadcast. He emphasized that the root of the issue lies in the lenient legislation that allows corruption to flourish. Tymochko argued for stricter penalties to deter individuals from engaging in corrupt practices within MSEC.
He stressed the importance of holding individuals involved in corruption within MSEC accountable, suggesting that imposing lifelong restrictions on their professional activities could significantly reduce demand for such unlawful activities. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine recently announced the identification of 77 individuals involved in corruption within MSEC since the beginning of the year.
The fight against corruption in MSEC is an ongoing battle that requires not only legal reform but also a shift in mindset towards accountability and integrity. By addressing these issues, Ukraine can pave the way for a more transparent and just healthcare system.
