Lahore Police Intensify Arrests Ahead of PTI Protest
In anticipation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for October 15, Lahore Police have ramped up efforts by arresting more than 35 party activists across the city. Raids were carried out in areas like Defence, Kot Lakhpat, and Johar Town to target individuals involved in organizing the protest.
The crackdown is part of measures to ensure order and prevent disruptions as Pakistan gears up to host the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. The PTI seeks to raise political grievances through the protest, straining relations with law enforcement agencies.
In response, PTI announced a powerful protest in Islamabad’s D-Chowk on the same day as the SCO Summit. They called for the release of PTI workers and leaders in custody and condemned unlawful arrests by the government. The central information secretary warned of widespread protests if basic rights, including access to family and party leaders, are denied to PTI chairman Imran Khan.
