Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, announced plans to suspend the right to asylum temporarily in response to alleged abuse by neighboring Belarus and Russia. Tusk emphasized the need for Poland to regain full control over its borders and reduce illegal migration to a minimum.
The decision comes after Poland faced migration pressures on its border with Belarus, with accusations of both countries luring migrants to destabilize the West. Tusk criticized the misuse of the right to asylum by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and human traffickers.
The new migration policy will include a territorial suspension of the right to asylum, with further details to be presented at a Cabinet meeting. Tusk also announced plans to tighten visa regulations to prevent similar scandals seen under the previous government.
The Prime Minister intends to seek recognition for the decision from the European Union, as Poland takes steps to address migration challenges and safeguard its borders.
