Israel Calls for UN Peacekeeping Mission Withdrawal from Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on the United Nations to withdraw its peacekeeping mission from southern Lebanon amid ongoing conflict in the region. Netanyahu urged UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to remove UNIFIL forces from Hezbollah strongholds and combat zones.

The Israeli army has requested this action several times, claiming that UNIFIL provides a human shield to Hezbollah terrorists. Netanyahu emphasized the need to evacuate peacekeepers from harm’s way to prevent further casualties.

UNIFIL, established in 1978, aims to confirm Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon and support the Lebanese government. However, recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have escalated tensions, resulting in casualties and displacements.

Despite international concerns about a potential regional war, Israel initiated a ground incursion into southern Lebanon. The situation remains volatile, with both sides urging for immediate action to safeguard civilians and peacekeepers.
