The Ministry of Industry and Trade is launching an investigation into steel sheet imports from Egypt following a complaint from Maghreb Steel, alleging dumping practices that harm the national industry.
Maghreb Steel has raised concerns about a surge in Egyptian steel imports affecting local production negatively. The ministry received a request to enforce anti-dumping measures under Article 16 of Law No. 15-09 to address this issue.
Data shows a significant increase in Egyptian steel imports since 2022, with a 343% rise from 2022 to 2023. This surge in imports has led to suspicions of dumping further impacting the national steel sheet sector.
An investigation will be conducted covering the period from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, focusing on the direct harm caused to the domestic industry in terms of sales, market share, and profitability.
Cold-rolled steel sheets play a vital role in the manufacturing of various building materials, appliances, and metal packaging, making it crucial to address any unfair trade practices affecting the local market.
