Moroccan Lawyers Establish New National Body for Western Sahara Advocacy

Amid ongoing debates surrounding the Western Sahara issue, Moroccan lawyers are stepping up their efforts to advocate for the country’s territorial integrity. The Association of Bar Associations of Morocco recently announced the establishment of a new “National Defense Body for Parallel Diplomacy,” dedicated to advancing Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara region.

President Hussein Zyani outlined the committee’s objectives, emphasizing a strong legal advocacy approach both domestically and internationally. The body aims to participate in conferences, seminars, and other forums to promote Morocco’s stance on Western Sahara and counter opposing narratives.

The committee will also focus on collecting and sharing evidence supporting Morocco’s claims, including materials to educate the public on the issue and endorse Morocco’s autonomy proposal for the Sahara. Zyani highlighted the committee’s alignment with the King’s recent emphasis on parallel diplomacy, emphasizing the lawyers’ dedication to defending national interests.
