Matter regarding Stanley’s exit reported to gardaí

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has taken a bold step by sending a file relating to an internal inquiry into now-resigned party TD Brian Stanley to the gardaí. In a statement, McDonald emphasized the party’s commitment to addressing difficult issues head-on.

Stanley, a Laois-Offaly TD and Dáil Public Accounts Committee chair, resigned amidst allegations of a smear campaign within the party. He criticized the internal inquiry as lacking objectivity and resembling a kangaroo court.

The nature of the internal inquiry remains unclear, but McDonald confirmed that files related to the case have been handed over to the gardaí. She reiterated the party’s commitment to following robust procedures when dealing with such matters.

The departure of Stanley from Sinn Féin follows the recent resignation of Kildare-South TD Patricia Ryan, who cited unresolved issues within the party. Despite internal disputes, Sinn Féin remains focused on transparency and addressing challenges as they arise.
