Man plotting to kill Trump arrested near rally: police | US elections 2024

A man armed with guns and false credentials was apprehended by authorities at a Donald Trump campaign rally in California. The suspect, identified as Vem Miller, was intercepted with a loaded shotgun, handgun, and high-capacity magazine near the rally entrance. Police believe he was plotting to kill Trump and are investigating his ties to a rightwing anti-government organization.

Miller, who holds a UCLA master’s degree and ran for Nevada state assembly, claims to be a sovereign citizen not subject to government statutes. He was booked for possessing a loaded firearm and high capacity magazine but was released on bail. Despite the incident, Trump’s safety and that of the attendees were not compromised.

This arrest follows previous attempts on Trump’s life, including a shooting incident in July in Pennsylvania and an arrest of a man with a rifle near his golf course in Florida. Authorities are taking extra precautions to ensure his safety at future events. The FBI is also questioning another individual flagged as potentially dangerous. Miller is scheduled to appear in court in January 2025.
