Israel mandates evacuation of additional southern Lebanese villages

Israel’s conflict with Iran-backed group Hezbollah in Lebanon escalated as Israel ordered more evacuations and targeted new locations, resulting in casualties and damage. The Israeli military declared areas near the Lebanese border closed to the public and ordered residents of southern Lebanese villages to evacuate.

Despite Hezbollah denying the use of civilians to conceal weapons, Israel continued its attacks, claiming Hezbollah’s increased activities threaten residents’ safety. Meanwhile, the US expressed concern over reports of Israeli attacks on UN peacekeeping positions, advocating for a diplomatic solution.

The conflict has led to significant damage and casualties on both sides, with hospitals and humanitarian organisations impacted. Israel reported hitting numerous targets in Lebanon and dismantling weapons storage sites.

The ongoing conflict has displaced over 1.2 million people since September, with the death toll rising. The situation is reminiscent of the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, with more Lebanese displaced now than before.

As tensions remain high, the international community urges both parties to prioritize peace and ensure the safety of civilians and UN peacekeepers.
