Interpol: Time’s Up for Crime Gangs

Interpol’s Director of Organised and Emerging Crime, Richard Chambers, recently emphasized the significance of the arrest of Sean McGovern earlier this week. The arrest was the result of extensive efforts by An Garda Síochána targeting the Kinahan organised crime group.

McGovern, identified earlier this year as one of the leaders of the group, was apprehended in Dubai based on an Interpol ‘red notice’. He is wanted in Ireland in connection with the murder of Noel Kirwan, a victim of the Hutch-Kinahan feud in 2016. A European Arrest Warrant had been issued by the High Court.

Chambers noted that this arrest should serve as a warning to fugitives like the Kinahan group that they are no longer safe hiding around the world. Interpol, with its 196 member countries, is capable of tracking down criminals globally. The swift action by the UAE following the red notice is a testament to the changing landscape for criminals seeking refuge.

Chambers expressed gratitude for the cooperation between Ireland, the UAE, and Interpol, signaling a more aggressive approach to apprehending fugitives. This arrest sends a clear message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated, with international law enforcement agencies ready to assist in such cases.
