Hezbollah fires rockets at Haifa, Israel criticized for attacking UNIFIL

On the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur, Israel found itself battling Hezbollah militants in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. Despite the observance of the Day of Atonement with quiet cities and fasting Jews, Israeli troops remained active on multiple fronts.

Hezbollah, determined to retaliate against Israeli strikes, launched missiles at an army base near Haifa, while Israeli forces intercepted projectiles from Lebanon. The conflict escalated as U.N. peacekeepers were injured in Lebanon, drawing international condemnation and calls for a ceasefire.

As tensions rose, Israeli Prime Minister Najib Mikati sought U.N. intervention for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, attention turned to potential retaliation against Iran, which had already launched missiles at Israel. President Joe Biden urged Israel to avoid targeting Iranian facilities.

The ongoing war resulted in casualties on both sides, with Gaza bearing the brunt of Israeli airstrikes. As the conflict continued, civilians faced unimaginable suffering with no end in sight.
