Group supports Nigeria’s bid for permanent UN Security Council seat

The Democratic Front (TDF) has commended Vice-President Kashim Shettima for advocating for a permanent seat for Nigeria in the United Nations Security Council during the recent UN General Assembly (UNGA). TDF Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, stated that it is long overdue for Africa to have representation in the Security Council.

Highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in addressing terrorism and violent crimes in Africa, Muhammad mentioned the Abuja Declaration of April 2024. He emphasized Nigeria’s history of contributing to global peace and security, including fighting apartheid and leading peacekeeping missions.

Muhammad also noted the American Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to invest $320 million in Nigeria, reflecting global confidence in the country’s economic reforms. He urged the government to intensify efforts to secure Africa’s representation in the Security Council.
