Gretchen Whitmer apologizes for feeding Doritos to podcaster after receiving backlash

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer sparked controversy with a social media video where she fed Doritos to a kneeling podcast host while wearing a Harris-Walz campaign hat to promote the CHIPS Act. The video aimed to highlight the legislation signed by President Joe Biden, allocating $53 billion towards semiconductor supply chains in the U.S. for job creation and national security.

The clip features Whitmer feeding Doritos to liberal podcaster Liz Plank, part of a TikTok trend, set to the song “Dilemma” by Nelly and Kelly Rowland. Critics misconstrued the video as mocking religious practices, prompting Whitmer to issue an apology emphasizing respect for faith.

Despite initial backlash, the governor clarified that the video’s intention was to support the CHIPS Act and apologized for any offense caused. Whitmer’s representation of the legislation through the Doritos stunt garnered mixed reactions, including criticism from the Michigan Catholic Bishops.
