Government provides M support for tomato farmers

The Jordanian Government Steps in to Support Tomato Farmers

In response to the challenges faced by tomato farmers in Jordan, the government has taken action to provide financial aid to support the sector. With rising production costs and falling prices, farmers have been struggling to make ends meet. To alleviate this, the Cabinet approved a plan to offer JD 50 per ton for exported tomatoes and processed tomatoes, totaling JD 1 million in aid. This initiative aims to support 20,000 tons of tomatoes and is funded through the Agricultural Risk Fund.

The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted the importance of this support in helping farmers recover from losses and expand their export opportunities. Without intervention, farmers may be forced to abandon tomato cultivation, further straining the sector. The government’s commitment to agriculture as a key component of Jordan’s food security and rural economy is evident in this decision, showcasing its dedication to supporting local farmers.

This move reaffirms the government’s recognition of agriculture as a vital sector in Jordan, crucial for ensuring food security and sustaining rural livelihoods.
