The group is believed to have ties with Hizb ut-Tahrir, a banned radical Islamist organization in Germany. Despite concerns, the police defended the group’s right to protest, citing freedom of assembly as a cornerstone of democracy, while also imposing restrictions on certain activities during the rally.
The call for a caliphate, chants of “Allahu Akbar,” and denouncements of Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon have sparked public debate over the limits of free speech and expression in Germany.
