A major oil terminal in the city of Feodosia in Russian-annexed Crimea continued to burn three days after Ukrainian missile strikes, as reported by the media on Wednesday. The Ukrainian military claimed a successful strike on the Feodosia offshore oil terminal, the largest in Crimea, on Monday, with no casualties reported by Russian-installed authorities.
The fire, which started at 800 square meters, had spread to 2,500 square meters by Wednesday morning, according to Rossiiskaya Gazeta. Feodosia’s mayor stated that 1,129 people were evacuated, and promises of compensation for property damage were made by Crimea’s leader.
Despite claims of air quality safety, high levels of sulfur dioxide were reported near the fire by the local consumer protection watchdog. The deployment of Pantsir-S air defense systems at the terminal has been observed since 2022. The oil terminal was nationalized by Russian authorities in 2019 and sold to a company linked to President Putin’s associate.
