Consumers of eggs and meat have expressed concern over the rising prices of these essential food items, particularly livestock products. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), some consumers highlighted the impact of price increases on their consumption patterns, especially for children who depend on protein.
They urged the government to intervene and address the high prices to align with consumers’ purchasing power. For instance, a kilo of beef has surged from N4,500-N5,000 to N6,500-N7,000, leading individuals like Mrs. Christiana Agede to explore alternative options like brisket bones. Similarly, the escalating costs of eggs and chicken have forced consumers like Mrs. Henrietta Daniel and Ms. Adaeze Asiji to limit their intake due to affordability issues.
Local sellers like Mr. Everistus Nnamani and Mr. Kelechi Odo attribute the price hikes to factors like transportation costs and exchange rates, impacting livestock prices. As the situation persists, consumers and traders alike hope for government intervention to stabilize prices and ensure food security for all.
