US President Joe Biden is rescheduling his visit to Germany following the cancellation of his original trip due to Hurricane Milton. He is set to visit Berlin for a one-day trip, where he will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The initial visit was planned to include a four-way summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as a meeting with over 50 of Ukraine’s allies to discuss support for Kyiv in its ongoing conflict with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had been expected to attend this meeting but instead embarked on a European tour to seek military aid amid Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine.
Biden’s decision to stay in the US during Hurricane Milton’s impact led to an estimated $50 billion in damages and at least 16 fatalities. Despite the delay, Biden’s upcoming visit to Germany signifies a push towards strengthening international alliances and addressing the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
