Biden pledges support for storm recovery on Florida visit

President Joe Biden has promised continued support for Florida as it recovers from the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the second major storm to hit the area recently. The devastation left by both Milton and the earlier Hurricane Helene has left residents struggling to rebuild amidst rising floodwaters, fuel shortages, and power outages.

During his visit to hard-hit St Pete Beach, President Biden witnessed the heartbreak and exhaustion of residents as they cope with the aftermath of the storms. Debris-filled streets, destroyed homes, and piles of household items lay scattered, painting a grim picture of the widespread destruction.

Despite challenges, progress is being made with 75% of Florida’s power restored and plans for more gasoline distribution sites. However, recovery is expected to be a lengthy process due to the back-to-back storms.

The administration has approved federal aid for residents and local governments, but additional funding from Congress is needed for long-term recovery efforts. President Biden’s call for quick action highlights the urgency of the situation as communities struggle to rebuild and emerge stronger than before.
