Berlin urged by thousands to stay out of Ukraine conflict

Peace Protest in Munich Urges End to Conflict in Ukraine, Middle East

Thousands of demonstrators in Munich, Germany gathered to call for peace between Moscow and Kiev, as well as an end to the ongoing fighting in the Middle East. Organized by the ver.di trade union, the protest featured banners and flags with slogans like ‘You will not prepare me for war.

The crowd urged the German government to halt arms shipments to Israel and Ukraine, advocating for the allocation of funds towards social needs instead. Calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine and the Middle East were echoed by speakers, emphasizing the importance of negotiation over military action.

While Germany’s arms exports to Israel saw a significant increase last year, recent data shows a decline in 2024. Chancellor Olaf Scholz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine militarily, despite warnings from Moscow about escalating the conflict.

The demonstration in Munich serves as a reminder of the pressing need for global peace and diplomacy in resolving conflicts, urging leaders to prioritize dialogue over warfare.
