A recent report revealed that 19 government officials, including those from the Ministry of National Defense and Ministry of Justice, have secured new positions at companies related to Kim Geon-hee, despite her controversial background. The data obtained by the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee shows that 12 officials from government ministries have joined the company, Heelim, since President Yoon Suk-yeol took office in May 2022.
Most of these officials were from the Ministry of National Defense, with eight individuals coming from various ranks within the military. Heelim acknowledged that these individuals were recommended by military personnel upon their recruitment. Additionally, other officials from the Ministry of Justice, Seoul High Prosecutors’ Office, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport also joined Heelim through personal connections.
Furthermore, another company, Doich Motors, saw seven former officials from Yoon’s administration join their ranks in the past three years. The company stated that all hires went through a public recruitment process, with two individuals leaving the company earlier this year. These recent developments raise concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the revolving door between government officials and the private sector.
