Zelenskyy: Troops Maintain Kursk Positions- DW-10/13/2024

Zelenskyy says Ukraine ‘holding the lines’ in Russia’s Kursk region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy assured in a video address that Ukrainian forces are standing firm in Russia’s Kursk border region despite attempts by Russia to push back their positions. The conflict began in early August, with Ukrainian forces maintaining control ever since.

Zelenskyy highlighted the challenging situations in the eastern Donetsk and southern Zaporizhzhia regions. He also expressed a desire to expand arms production in Ukraine with Western investment, emphasizing the country’s industrial capacity to produce drones and military equipment.

Furthermore, Ukraine aims to create a buffer zone in the Kursk region to prevent Russian shelling of Ukrainian border areas. Zelenskyy’s strategic goal is to divert Russian forces from the eastern frontline in Ukraine’s Donbas region to ease tensions.

Russia recently recaptured two villages in the Kursk region, escalating tensions in the area. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for investments in the Ukrainian defense industry, leading to increased drone production and enhancing the country’s military capabilities.
