Welsh National Party urges UK to expel Israeli ambassador

Members of Plaid Cymru have called for a sporting and economic boycott of Israel due to the ongoing war in Gaza, labeling Israel as an “apartheid state” and accusing it of “ethnic cleansing and war crimes”. The party’s Westminster MPs supported this motion at their conference on Saturday.

Husam Zomlot, the Palestinians’ top envoy to the UK, also spoke at the conference urging Wales to pressure the UK government to hold Israel accountable for its actions. Zomlot emphasized the need for Israel to comply with international law and called for an arms embargo and immediate recognition of the state of Palestine.

Describing Israel’s actions as “genocide”, Zomlot highlighted the devastating impact of the conflict in Gaza and condemned Israel for disregarding the global rules-based order. The audience applauded his calls for action against Israel.

Amidst growing international condemnation, Norway also joined in by condemning Israel for violating war conventions. The push for sanctions and recognition of Palestine reflects the increasing support for Palestinian rights on the global stage.
