US sends THAAD defense system to Israel amidst escalating tensions with Iran

The United States is transferring the THAAD missile defense system to Israel to counter potential ballistic missile threats from Iran, amidst escalating tensions in the region. Israel had requested additional military assets from Washington to bolster its defense capabilities.

Iran is engaging in diplomatic efforts with regional countries to mitigate Israel’s expected response and secure protection for its capital amidst concerns over potential Israeli strikes on critical Iranian facilities. U.S. allies in the Gulf have indicated they will not allow Israel to use their airspace for such attacks.

A response to the response

Despite tensions, the U.S. does not believe Iran desires full-scale war with Israel. While there is uncertainty regarding Iran’s next moves, Washington is urging Iran to carefully calibrate its response if Israel strikes. Talks between the U.S. and Iran continue regularly.

Gallant’s threat

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned of a potent Israeli response to any Iranian aggression. Gallant, during a visit to IDF Unit 9900, emphasized the precision and lethality of Israel’s potential actions. His upcoming visit to the U.S. was approved following conditions set by Prime Minister Netanyahu, including a conversation with President Biden.
