The United States has approved arms sales totaling $1.2 billion to the UAE, predominantly consisting of ammunition. The Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated that the sale of GMLRS and ATAMs will enhance the security of an important regional partner, aligning with US foreign policy and national security objectives.
This significant arms deal was finalized following a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Emirati counterpart Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the White House. Additionally, the US approved arms sales to Saudi Arabia exceeding one billion dollars, encompassing Sidewinder missiles, artillery ammunition, and Hellfire anti-tank missiles.
Both sales have been approved by the US State Department and are awaiting final approval from Congress as per US law. This strategic move underscores America’s commitment to bolstering the defense capabilities of key allies in the Middle East.
