The ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon has resulted in a dire humanitarian crisis, with over 420,000 people, mostly Syrians, fleeing into Lebanon since the beginning of Israeli attacks. Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights office, reported that more than 310,000 Syrians and 110,000 Lebanese nationals have sought refuge in Syria. The densely populated Beirut has faced relentless Israeli strikes, leading to hundreds of casualties and over a million people displaced across Lebanon.
Amid escalating violence, Shamdasani expressed concern over inflammatory language and threats that could incite violence against civilians. The attacks have also targeted civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, resulting in the loss of over 2,000 lives, with a significant number being women and children.
The situation took a turn for the worse when Israeli warplanes intensified attacks on northern Gaza, endangering civilian lives and displacing many Palestinians. The conflict escalated further when Israeli forces targeted UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, violating international laws.
