Ukraine, France collaborate on defense production, Zelensky reveals

Ukraine and France are joining hands to establish new defense production facilities, as announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky. This initiative follows Zelensky’s recent visit to Paris where he discussed military support and investment in Ukraine’s industrial sector with French President Emmanuel Macron.

While details of the production agreement are still forthcoming, Zelensky highlighted the success of the Danish model in attracting investments for defense production. He sees the new partnership with France as an opportunity to create new production facilities and boost the country’s defense capabilities.

The Ukrainian President emphasized that both countries are working towards finalizing the agreement through their respective defense ministries. Additionally, French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu confirmed the delivery of Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine in early 2025.

Ukraine is also investing in domestic ammunition and drone production to reduce reliance on foreign partners. Despite these efforts, foreign financing remains crucial due to budget limitations. With this collaboration, Ukraine aims to enhance its defense capabilities and promote independent defense production.
