Sokoto teams up with consortium to combat malaria — The Guardian Nigeria

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, is spearheading efforts to combat the malaria scourge in the state by partnering with the Malaria Consortium.

During a visit by the Director of Malaria Consortium for West and Central Africa, Dr. Maxwell Kolawole, the governor emphasized the need for a more robust collaboration to address the major health challenge of malaria in Sokoto State.

Governor Aliyu highlighted the various health initiatives implemented under his administration, including free medical care for pregnant women, the elderly, and children. Additionally, he mentioned the state’s malaria control program, which includes outreach programs, medical support, financial assistance, and distribution of mosquito-treated nets.

Dr. Kolawole stressed the importance of house-to-house oral vaccine administration and the need for increased consumption of anti-malaria drugs, especially among children. He called for the state government’s support in promoting timely medication intake and the use of mosquito nets to combat malaria effectively.

The governor reiterated his commitment to making Sokoto State malaria-free and praised the Malaria Consortium for its dedicated efforts in halting the spread of malaria in the state.
