Sindh Cabinet Voices Against Prolonged Loadshedding
The Sindh cabinet recently denounced prolonged loadshedding by power distribution companies, labeling it as collective punishment. The cabinet demanded reforms in load management laws to prevent discrimination and unfair practices.
During the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the cabinet criticized the shutdown of power feeders in entire areas due to non-payment or line losses, deeming it unconstitutional. Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized that power theft and technical losses shouldn’t burden the public, urging the federal government to intervene.
The cabinet also approved a hike in the minimum wage for unskilled laborers to Rs37,000 per month for the fiscal year 2024-25. Additionally, funds were allocated for police stations and amendments were made to Sindh Police Financial Powers Rules 2019.
Furthermore, the cabinet addressed healthcare issues, approving the surrender of redundant posts and creating new clinical care positions. Maternal and Child Health centers in remote areas were also handed over to a non-governmental organization for 24/7 operation.
