Replace Foreign Cartoons with Nigerian Content: Promoting Values

The Federal Government is addressing the issue of Nigerian children adopting foreign attitudes due to exposure to foreign cartoons. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) launched a campaign in Bauchi to promote the National Anthem and the National Value Charter. The Director-General of NOA, Lanre Onilu, expressed concerns about foreign cultures infiltrating Nigerian homes through cartoons and announced the replacement of foreign cartoons with Nigerian content to promote national values.

Onilu emphasized the need to redefine Nigeria’s identity, citing past leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe. He pointed out that Nigerians should not celebrate honesty as something extraordinary, as it should be the norm. The campaign aims to change the narrative and discourage Nigerians from concealing their identity while abroad.

The Bauchi State Coordinator of NOA, Mrs. Theresa Omaga, outlined plans to extend the campaign across the state’s 20 local government areas. The goal is to promote Nigerian culture and values through local content and combat the negative portrayal of the country abroad.
