Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian showcased their close ties during a recent meeting, amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East following Iran’s missile attack and Israel’s impending response. The meeting, held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, highlighted the deepening military cooperation between Russia and Iran, with significant transfers of drones and missiles between the two countries.

Putin emphasized the shared worldview between Russia and Iran, citing their mutual interests in international affairs. Analysts view this partnership as mutually beneficial, especially in light of global sanctions on both countries. Iran’s expertise in evading sanctions has become valuable for Moscow, as they solidify their military alliance in the region to support the Syrian regime.

The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with discussions on joint projects and expanding trade relations. Both countries are expected to sign a comprehensive strategic agreement at the upcoming BRICS summit, underscoring the strategic importance of their alliance.

Despite tensions and differing priorities, the Russia-Iran relationship is at an “all-time high,” according to the Russian foreign ministry. The meeting agenda encompassed bilateral relations and regional stability, reflecting the growing influence of the Russia-Iran axis in the Middle East.
