The parliamentary committee, comprising members from both sides, discussed various drafts, including those from the PML-N and PPP. However, the PTI rejected the government’s draft, calling it vague, while praising the clarity of the PPP’s proposals.
After intense discussions, it was decided that the constitutional package would be introduced after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. The PPP’s proposals include the establishment of a Federal Constitutional Court and changes to Article 175, outlining the powers of courts.
The PPP has also proposed provincial constitutional courts to handle complaints and appeals, thus redistributing the judicial authority. The committee will reconvene to reach a consensus after further deliberations.
