The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has accused the All Progressives Congress-led state government of denying them permission to use a venue for their campaign kickoff ahead of the November 16 governorship election. The PDP had applied to use Democracy Park in Akure for their event on October 15, 2024, but the request was allegedly denied by the state government.
The PDP has vowed to go ahead with their campaign despite the denial, criticizing the administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa for the alleged pettiness. The party declared readiness for the upcoming election and expressed confidence in defeating the incumbent.
In response, the state Director of Media and Publicity refuted the allegations, stating that Governor Aiyedatiwa does not have direct authority over the park’s management. He urged the PDP to provide evidence of payment and approval if all requirements were met.
Overall, the situation reflects the political tensions in Ondo State as the election approaches, with both parties trading accusations and emphasizing the importance of issue-based campaigning.
