Oman has remained vigilant against counterfeit currency operations this year, with authorities issuing warnings about schemes promoting fake foreign currencies. The Royal Oman Police’s Inquiries and Criminal Investigations Department highlighted the dangers of falling victim to deceptive offers promising lucrative rates for exchange.
Brigadier Jamal Habib al Quraishi, Director General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations, emphasized the severe impact of counterfeiting on the national economy. While efforts to combat these crimes have been successful so far, public awareness and vigilance are crucial in preventing their spread.
Despite no recorded cases of counterfeit currency operations in Oman in the first half of the year, fraudulent methods persist, targeting individuals seeking quick wealth. The police have identified schemes involving obsolete foreign currencies, duping unsuspecting victims into worthless transactions.
ROP’s forensic laboratory utilizes advanced technology to detect counterfeit currencies accurately. Additionally, international cooperation with organizations like Interpol enhances efforts to combat counterfeiting and stay ahead of emerging threats.
