Musk’s Tesla X back in Brazil after 40-day ban

After a 40-day ban in Brazil due to a legal dispute over disinformation, Elon Musk’s social media platform X is back in Latin America’s largest country. The Supreme Court lifted the suspension, allowing users to access the platform once again, with the hashtag “#voltou” trending in Brazil.

X also expressed its delight at returning to Brazil, emphasizing its commitment to defending freedom of speech within legal boundaries. The reactivation process is ongoing, with some users still experiencing connection issues attributed to their internet providers.

Brazil’s telecoms regulator clarified the situation, stating that delays were due to provider operations. X, with 22 million users in Brazil prior to the ban, had to pay fines and adhere to court orders to resume activities in the country.

Communications Minister Juscelino Filho hailed the outcome as a victory for Brazil, emphasizing the country’s sovereignty and the importance of respecting the law. The clash between Judge Alexandre de Moraes and Elon Musk, marked by strong language from Musk, garnered global attention for its implications on freedom of speech and disinformation control.
