Moscow unfazed by US election results – Lavrov

The upcoming US presidential election is unlikely to affect Washington’s stance towards Russia, as both Democrats and Republicans have already reached a consensus on countering the country, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In an interview with Newsweek, Lavrov stated that it doesn’t matter if the next president is Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, as Moscow will continue to promote its interests, particularly in terms of national security.

Lavrov emphasized the importance of focusing on domestic issues and suggested that the US president should prioritize them over getting involved in distant conflicts. Despite the strained relations between Russia and the US, with Moscow preparing for a prolonged confrontation due to bipartisan anti-Russian sentiments in Washington, the US continues to impose sanctions on Russia, including targeting Russian media outlets like RT for alleged government-sponsored influence campaigns.

Overall, the US-Russia relationship remains tense, with Moscow criticizing the US for its “Russophobic” attitude and warning of irreversible democratic degradation in the country.
