Recent studies have shown that two-thirds of Poles are in favor of sending male Ukrainian refugees back to their country to fight against Russia, with only 22% supporting their stay in Poland. The Center for Public Opinion Research (CBOS) conducted this survey, revealing a significant change in public opinion regarding the refugee crisis.
While over half of Poles still support accepting Ukrainian refugees, the number has dropped to its lowest level since the conflict began. The poll also indicates that opinions differ on the conflict itself, with 46% advocating for continued fighting and 39% suggesting Kiev make concessions for peace.
The shift in attitudes towards Ukrainian refugees in Poland has led to discussions on reducing social benefits to encourage returns, and the initiation of the ‘Ukrainian Legion’ for military training. However, recruitment for this unit has been slow, with only around 300 volunteers in almost three months.
Despite the division among Polish citizens, the issue continues to be a topic of debate, reflecting the complexity of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
