China’s Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is fully prepared for the upcoming sixth-term chief executive election. Scheduled for Sunday morning at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex, the election is of great significance.

Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng inspected the polling station and received a report from the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for the Chief Executive Election. Amendments to the Chief Executive Election Law were made last year to emphasize the principle of “patriots administering Macao,” making this election pivotal.

The EAC, led by president Song Man Lei, has made all arrangements for the election day, including setting up 32 voting booths and 8 ballot boxes for the 400 members of the Chief Executive Election Committee. Polling will begin at 10 a.m., with Sam Hou Fai being the sole candidate.

Following the Macao SAR Basic Law, the chief executive will be elected by a representative committee and appointed by the Central People’s Government for a five-year term.
