Lebanon’s Prime Minister Prioritizes Cease-Fire Amid Israeli Aggression
Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Najip Mikati, emphasized the country’s main priority of achieving a cease-fire and ending Israeli aggression while ensuring the security and safety of its citizens. During a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Mikati reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Prime Minister highlighted ongoing efforts with international players and the UN to pressure Israel into complying with the resolution. Mikati also received a phone call from US envoy Amos Hochstein to discuss securing a cease-fire and a comprehensive political solution.
Despite Israel’s airstrikes in Lebanon, Mikati confirmed Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry had submitted a request to the UN Security Council for an immediate cease-fire and the full enforcement of the resolution. The resolution calls for a cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel and the establishment of a demilitarized zone in the region.
