Jewish school in Canada targeted on Yom Kippur

Gunshots rang out at a Jewish day school in Toronto on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, marking the second attack on Bais Chaya Mushka Elementary School this year. Fortunately, no one was harmed during the incident, but the building suffered damage. The police are investigating the shooting, which occurred at 4:05 am local time, as a possible hate crime due to its timing on a Jewish holy day.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for a safe environment for students and teachers. Opposition politician Pierre Poilievre also denounced the incident, highlighting the rise in antisemitic attacks in Canada. Statistics Canada reported a significant increase in hate crimes against Jewish Canadians in recent years.
