Florida Battles Floods, Blackouts, and Gas Shortages After Hurricanes Helene and Milton

CNN

Florida recently faced the wrath of two devastating storms in quick succession, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of life. Helene’s winds and rains claimed 20 lives, while Milton caused an additional 17 fatalities, accompanied by flooding, storm surges, and tornado outbreaks.

The aftermath is dire, with flooded streets, fallen trees, and millions without power. Gasoline shortages and financial challenges add to the existing woes, making recovery a daunting task for Floridians.

Although airports, ports, and theme parks are gradually reopening, the road to recovery will be long and require substantial financial aid and resources.

Recovery will take time and money

Efforts are underway to clear debris and restore essential services, but challenges persist due to downed trees and power lines. Vigilance against scams and exploitation is crucial during the recovery phase.

Government agencies and nonprofits work to help

President Biden will visit affected areas in Florida, emphasizing the need for additional funding to support recovery efforts. Organizations like FEMA and the Red Cross are mobilizing resources to assist those in need.

CNN’s Andy Rose and Paradise Afshar contributed to this report.
