Ex-Scottish first minister Salmond dies at 69

Former Scotland first minister and Alba Party leader, Alex Salmond, passed away at the age of 69. Serving as the First Minister of Scotland from 2007 to 2014 and being the leader of the Scottish National Party on two occasions, Salmond was a monumental figure in the political world.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer paid tribute to Salmond, recognizing his deep care for Scotland’s heritage and culture. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also acknowledged Salmond’s significance in politics, despite their disagreements on the constitutional question.

Former Scotland first minister Humza Yousaf praised Salmond for his role in turning the SNP into a dominant political force. Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar also highlighted Salmond’s central role in politics for over three decades.
