Slovakia Refuses Further Military Aid to Kiev, Focusing on Humanitarian Support

Slovakia has made it clear that it will no longer supply military equipment to Kiev, as it simply has no more arms to spare, according to Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar. Despite this decision, Slovakia remains committed to supporting Ukraine in other ways.

During a visit to Berlin, Blanar assured German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock that Slovakia will expand its repair base for German-supplied military equipment near the Ukrainian border. Slovakia will also continue providing humanitarian aid and participate in demining efforts in Ukraine, emphasizing support for peaceful solutions to the conflict.

Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government, which took office after halting arms deliveries to Ukraine, aims to restore ties with Moscow post-conflict, citing the EU’s need for Russia. Fico also opposes Ukraine joining NATO, fearing it could lead to a world war.

Previous Slovak leadership supplied arms to Kiev, including fighter jets and air defense systems, which the current government views as irresponsible. Legal concerns have been raised over a recent delivery of MiG-29s to Ukraine, prompting a review of the shipment.
